Ragina Scott Saunders
Ragina Scott Saunders, a native of Charleston, South Carolina and proud descendant of the Gullah Geechee people, is a recognized community advocate and entrepreneur. As the founder of Destiny Community Café — South Carolina’s first and only pay-what-you-can café — she has spent decades addressing food insecurity and promoting dignity and inclusion through access to healthy, home-cooked meals.
Her innovative leadership has earned her numerous awards, including two Heroes Awards and the Jefferson Award for community service. Today, while Destiny’s Café undergoes restructuring to serve the community in new ways, the nonprofit continues its mission by sponsoring the Lowcountry Pay It Forward Café, a collaborative project with Paul Gangarosa that pilots a mobile pay-it-forward dining experience in Charleston. Ragina’s work is grounded in faith, compassion, and a lifelong dedication to building stronger, more connected communities — one plate, one person, and one act of kindness at a time.
